Everybody is going to have a favorite brand of dog food, and think everyone else is wrong. So in kinda puts the question in the ambiguous category. The reality is that there is no right or wrong answer, not all dogs have the same needs. Don’t be afraid to try a food and see how YOUR dog does on it.
With the Retriever enthusiasts there are two schools of thought as to what foods to use for a lab puppy, IMHO they both work equally as well.
The first one (old method) was to buy one 40# bag of regular puppy food, and when that bag is gone switch the dog to an adult formula.
The second one (new method) is to keep the dog on a LARGE breed puppy food for one year, and then switch to an adult food.
Where the problem with Labs comes from is that puppy foods are to hot, and cause to fast a growth rate. This causes weak joints, and the dog will brake down because of it.

You haven’t said if you lost him inside or outside. Also you may think he is still inside but may have snuck out of an open window or the door when someone opened it. Also animals can find water outside. There will always be someone waterinf their garden, washing their car and even in the morning when the grass is wet. There is no way a hamster could survine that long without food or water but more than likely it would have found some. Also it may be a good idea to alert the neighbours and put up some posters. Someone may have found him.
